Are you considering newborn photography but have some questions?

Don't worry, I'm here to help!

As a lifestyle/candid and studio newborn photographer, I understand the value and importance of capturing these early moments of your baby's life!

If you're a new parent, you're probably overwhelmed with all the decisions you need to make.

Newborn photography doesn't have to be one of them.

Let me guide you through the process and provide you with all the information you need to capture the early moments of your baby's life.

Let's dive into some of the most common questions about newborn photography.

“What should I look for when hiring a newborn photographer?”

It's important to choose a photographer who specializes in newborn photography and has experience working with infants. I have years of experience working with newborns and their families. I'm also a mom so I have loads of personal experience with my own child. I'm dedicated to providing a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable experience for you and your baby. I understand the importance of capturing these early moments, and I take pride in creating beautiful, timeless memories that you'll cherish for years to come.

“What can I expect during a newborn photography session?”

During a newborn photography session, I'll work to create a comfortable and safe environment for your baby, and guide you through the posing process. You can include your family members in the photos, and I encourage parents and siblings to participate in this special moment. If you have any specific poses or props in mind, I'm always happy to incorporate your ideas and preferences into the session.

To capture the best moments, it's important to schedule your newborn photography session as early as possible, ideally within the first two weeks of your baby's life. I recommend booking your session as soon as possible during your pregnancy to ensure availability.

Newborn photography is an art that captures the fleeting, beautiful moments of a baby's earliest days. My approach blends candid interactions and gently posed family moments, creating images that reflect the genuine love and connection of a family. One of the best ways to capture these moments is through in-home photography, where the environment is familiar, relaxed, and personal.

Why I Love In-Home Newborn Photography

In-home newborn photography holds a special place in my heart because it captures families in their own space — the home they’ve created together. There’s a unique charm in seeing newborns in their nursery, parents relaxing in their living room, or siblings playing in the background. Here’s why I recommend in-home sessions:

  • Comfort for the Baby and Family: Newborns feel most at ease in familiar surroundings. Being at home means less disruption to routines, less travel stress, and more flexibility. Families can take breaks, feed the baby, or even grab a quick snack, making the session flow naturally.
  • Personal Connection: In-home sessions allow me to highlight details that have sentimental value — the rocking chair passed down from a grandparent, the cozy corner in the nursery, or the first crib. These elements add layers of meaning to the images and connect the session to the family’s story.
  • Real Moments in Real Spaces: Capturing a family’s daily environment makes the session feel more intimate. I want the images to feel like a beautiful glimpse into family life, preserving the moments they’ll cherish forever. From tiny hands clutching a parent’s finger to the way a baby sleeps peacefully in their arms, in-home photography lets me capture memories in a meaningful and timeless way.

Preparing for a Natural & Organic In-Home Session

Here’s how I help families prepare to get the most out of their in-home session:

  • Light and Space Considerations: I always recommend choosing a room with plenty of natural light. Open windows, simple décor, and cozy, neutral colors work best. I’ll move around a bit, capturing different angles and finding the best light to create soft, beautiful images.
  • Less is More: Since I focus on natural moments, I encourage families to avoid heavy styling or too many props. A cozy blanket, a favorite onesie, or a special family memento is often all we need. I want the images to be timeless, capturing genuine interactions rather than staged perfection.
  • Be Yourselves: The best advice? Be yourselves. Don’t worry about the little things. Let me capture your family as you are, from quiet moments to silly ones. Sometimes, the most beautiful photographs come from unexpected moments of love and joy.

Candid, natural, and organic photography is all about telling a family’s story as it unfolds, with gentle direction to create moments that feel authentic. In-home newborn sessions elevate this style, creating a relaxed and meaningful environment where families can be themselves.

Creating Comfort and Style: Why I Provide Wraps, Blankets, and Outfits for Newborn Sessions

As a newborn photographer, I want each session to be as stress-free and enjoyable as possible for my clients. That’s why I’m excited to offer a curated selection of baby wraps, blankets, and a few classic outfits for your little one’s session. Whether we’re shooting in studio or in the comfort of your own home, I ensure that every element complements my signature style: soft, organic, and timeless.

1. Why I Provide Wraps, Blankets, and Outfits for Your Session

Newborn sessions are meant to be a celebration of your baby’s first days, and I know that preparing for a photoshoot can feel overwhelming. By offering a range of wraps and outfits, I hope to make the experience more relaxed for you and provide pieces that match the natural, cozy feel of my photography.

  • Consistency in Style: The wraps, blankets, and outfits I use are carefully selected to maintain a soft, neutral, and organic look. This helps ensure that every session — whether in-home or in the studio — reflects the same timeless aesthetic, allowing your baby to be the focus of each image.
  • Less Stress for Parents: Parents often worry about what to dress their newborn in or how to style the session. By providing these essentials, I take that worry off your shoulders. You can focus on enjoying the session rather than rushing to buy new outfits or guess what will photograph well.
  • A Gentle Approach to Wrapping: I specialize in gently posed wrap positions for newborns. Using my own wraps, I can ensure the perfect fit and comfort for your baby. From cozy cocoon wraps to softer, more loosely styled swaddles, I adapt the wrapping technique to your baby’s needs and personality.

2. How I Use Wraps, Blankets, and Outfits in My Sessions

Each session, whether in the studio or your home, is styled to capture your baby’s delicate features and precious first moments. Here’s how I use my collection to create those beautiful, natural images:

  • Soft, Neutral Wraps for Snug Posing: I have a variety of wraps in soft, neutral tones that allow me to gently swaddle your baby in different styles. Wrapped poses are perfect for highlighting a baby’s tiny hands, peaceful expressions, and the way they curl up naturally. These wraps can also be combined with different textures — like knitted blankets or lightweight fabrics — to add layers and depth without overwhelming the image.
  • Classic Outfits for Simple Elegance: For parents who want a touch of clothing in their session, I offer a few classic outfits that are simple, comfortable, and timeless. These outfits are made from breathable materials and are chosen to blend seamlessly with my overall aesthetic, ensuring that your baby’s unique personality shines through.
  • Blankets for Texture and Warmth: My blankets range from delicate knits to soft cottons and are perfect for creating a warm, cozy backdrop. They’re also used to gently prop up your baby for tummy-time poses or to create a snug nest for sleepy moments.

3. Making Each Session Unique and Personal

While I provide these wraps, blankets, and outfits, I also welcome any personal items that have special meaning to you. If there’s a family heirloom, a handmade blanket, or a favourite onesie you’d love to include, I’m always happy to incorporate those pieces into the session. The goal is to create a mix of beautiful, natural images that not only reflect my style but also tell your family’s story.

Providing these wraps, blankets, and outfits is just one way I help make your newborn session easy and enjoyable. By taking the stress out of styling and posing, I ensure you can focus on cherishing these first moments with your little one. What to Expect During a Studio Session: Natural and Organic Posing, Just Like Home

I often get asked about the differences between my in-home and studio newborn sessions. While the setting may change, my philosophy and approach remain the same. Whether in the comfort of your own home or in my studio, I focus on creating images that are soft, natural, and authentic.

In my studio, I create a cozy and intimate environment designed to feel just as comfortable and relaxed as your own home. I avoid using strict, formal poses or traditional backdrops that feel stiff or staged. Instead, I focus on gently guiding you and your little one into natural positions that highlight the love and connection between your family members.

My studio sessions, like my in-home ones, are all about capturing real moments — from sweet baby yawns to the way you cradle your newborn’s tiny hand. I’ll use soft, neutral textures and minimal props to keep the focus on your family and your baby’s unique personality. This means we won’t be posing in front of heavy backdrops or using complicated setups. Instead, think of a studio session as a calm, cozy space where you can snuggle up, relax, and let those precious, candid moments unfold.

Whether you choose to have your newborn session at home or in the studio, you can expect the same natural, timeless style and an experience centered on your family’s comfort and joy.

“Do I need to bring anything?”

You don't need to bring much to the session as most of the items your baby will need will be provided by the studio, including props, backdrops, and blankets. However, I encourage you to bring a few personal items that you would like to incorporate into the photos, like a special blanket or toy (this is optional)!

“When will I get my photos?”

After the session, you can expect to receive the final edited photos within 2-3 weeks after you select your favourite images. I offer a range of packages that include both digital files and prints. I'm happy to work with you to create a customized package that meets your specific needs.

“How much does newborn photography cost?”

Newborn photography sessions can range from $497 to $797 up (depending if you would like to purchase additional prints and albums). I know this might seem like a significant investment, but keep in mind that newborn photography is a specialized service that requires a lot of time, effort, and equipment. I'm dedicated to providing high-quality images & products that you'll cherish for a lifetime!

So, there you have it! Newborn photography is a wonderful way to capture the early moments of your baby's life and I do my best to take care of all the details, so all you have to do is show up!
